How To: The Old Character Dupe Method

This is FIXED. I had it posted in a higher-up section, but moved it down here for the masses to read and in case someone wants to find a variation that still works, or if it becomes workable again in the future.

Since the introduction of connected realms up until earlier in 2015, it was possible to completely dupe characters. Very few people knew the method, and it was fixed when the people we sold it to abused the shit out of it. I'm posting it here now just in case people want to play around with it or something.

Requirements:

• A character you want to dupe. Must be at least level 10, or level 60 for a Death Knight.
• Must meet all other character transfer requirements (Limited amount of gold, not leader of a guild, etc).

Method:

1) Select the character you want to transfer, and select the option “Where do you wish to transfer your character?” – Another Realm.

2) Set the destination to any realm you want that’s outside your connected realm group.

You’ll now see this in your web browser’s address bar:



[1] Is the realm ID for your current realm, [2] is the realm ID for your destination realm. Here’s where it gets interesting.

There’s a bunch of “hidden” realms that can be separated into two types. Firstly, there’s Development realms. There are very few times that transferring to these actually work, because they’re rarely, if ever anymore online. The second type are Connected Realm Realms. These are the actual servers Connected Realms are condensed into.

You can transfer to either of these, but transferring to Connected Realms worked more consistently. These are marked by “Internal Record XX”. I've attached a somewhat abbreviated list of all these realms.

3) What you'll want to do is replace the [2] in your address bar with one of those numbers listed above, and hit Enter to load the page with the new Destination realm.

4) Click Agree and Continue, and you'll see something like this:



5) Continue to payment and pay for the transfer as normal.

6) Wait for the transfer to become marked as Complete. You'll notice your character is still on your old realm and playable. Delete the character.

7) Open a live chat session and say your character transfer is marked as completed, but you can't find it, while telling them it should be on whatever realm you want to say. They'll look at their records, and they'll see it went to "Internal Record XX", which on their end is how they see their realms. They'll ask you to check whatever realm that XX number matches up to, say you can't find it (because it's really not there). They'll run you through a bunch of troubleshooting, and eventually realise something went wrong. Because the character is on a realm that characters don't actually reside on, they have to manually move the character to either your destination realm or back to your home realm. It normally took them about an hour for us.

8) Once the character is back, thank them endlessly, tell them you love them and give great feedback. Then undelete your character.

9) Congratulations, duped character.

We did this probably 8 times over the course of 6 months between 6 different people, and had a 100% success rate. With the vast amount of transfers that happened everyday, and the newly introduced connected realms, it was simply put down as an error in the system, so they didn't question anything. Sometimes we were even refunded the transfer fee or given free game time. Talking to a particular GM doing this, a lot was learned about the transfer system behind the scenes and how it all works.

The reason this doesn't work anymore is because your character is no longer left on your main realm after transferring to one of these Developer/Connected Realm realms. You can still transfer there (to some of them at least). It was fixed because the people we sold it to tried to dupe around 100 characters in a day. They were all banned on those accounts, our accounts weren't touched, so it wasn't some automated ban, it was a manual ban.

Anyway, hope someone finds some use for this, or just found it enjoyable, or maybe even get it to work for themselves :)

Since all regions share the same list, it was(maybe still is?) possible to transfer characters from US to other region realms but you couldn't access them because the US account didn't show EU/whatever realm list.
